Who is this program for?
Puppy Training Board & Train is designed for puppies beginning their foundational obedience and household routines. It offers an accelerated approach for owners who want to build everyday skills through concentrated practice, instead of spreading the work across private sessions.
- Puppies beginning their basic obedience and household routines.
- Puppies who need guidance with jumping, nipping, chewing, potty habits and settling in a crate.
- Owners who want a focused training program and are ready to keep practicing with their puppy at home.
Program length: A minimum stay of two weeks.
Vaccination requirement: We cannot accept puppies before their vaccinations are complete. Before booking, ask your veterinarian to confirm that your puppy has completed all three rounds of puppy vaccinations and any additional doses they recommend, and is ready for a boarding stay.
What does the program cover?
Training follows a step-by-step plan, starting with engagement and a willingness to learn. We then build the practical skills your puppy needs for everyday life.
Engagement & focus
Step-by-step exercises develop attention, connection and an enjoyable attitude toward learning and working with people.
Basic obedience commands
Sit, down, stay and recall build a foundation for clear communication and everyday routines.
Loose leash walking & heel foundations
Practice loose leash walking and the early steps of moving alongside a handler. We lay the foundation for heel work; advanced or polished heeling is not the focus of this puppy program.
Potty training & routines
Consistent potty routines, clear expectations and reinforcement help puppies build appropriate habits. Training is adapted to your puppy’s age and current progress.
Puppy manners & chewing
Work on jumping, nipping and inappropriate chewing while teaching more appropriate ways to play, interact with people and use toys.
Crate comfort & separation anxiety
Build positive associations with the crate and practice short periods apart to support puppies who struggle with separation. We work toward comfort and confidence at a pace suited to your puppy.
How we teach your puppy
Food, toys and positive reinforcement are the foundation of our puppy program. We focus on teaching and rewarding the behaviors we want, helping your puppy enjoy working with people and building confidence through encouraging, age-appropriate experiences.
We do not use prong collars on puppies younger than six months. For puppies six months or older, any proposed use is discussed with you in advance and is never a requirement of the program.
If a puppy is straining against a collar or showing signs of discomfort, we reassess the equipment and training approach with you. Our priority is a comfortable introduction to training built around positive reinforcement.
What does a training day look like?
Every puppy is different. Energy level, personality and training goals shape the day. Our goal is a puppy who enjoys the work and looks forward to learning.
Focused training sessions
Your puppy receives at least four short training sessions each day, typically four to five sessions of around 15 minutes. Timing and pace are personalized to the puppy.
Why short sessions?
Short sessions help keep training enjoyable and attention fresh. We watch for fatigue or frustration and adjust the session so your puppy is comfortable, attentive and ready to learn.
Learning between sessions
Supervised play and managed daily routines provide opportunities to reinforce the skills taught during lessons, with time to rest between activities. Good habits are practiced and maintained throughout your puppy’s stay.
Where does training take place?
The program takes place at Heaven Sent K-9’s private five-acre ranch in Perris, Riverside County, in the Inland Empire. Your puppy stays at the ranch during the program.
We welcome families from throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire. Clients bring their puppies to our Perris ranch for their stay. Pickup and drop-off transportation may be arranged upon request, subject to availability.
Your role after board & train
One-hour private session at pickup
Your program includes a one-hour private session when you pick up your puppy. We review everything we worked on, demonstrate how the skills were taught and show you how to continue the training at home.
Board & train gives your puppy a foundation; it does not replace training and working with your puppy at home.
Continued practice, consistent expectations and reinforcement help your puppy use these skills with you in everyday life. Your involvement is an essential part of maintaining the progress made during the stay.
Looking for behavior modification or aggression training?
This program focuses on foundational skills and common puppy behaviors. Aggression or severe separation distress may require a different level of support and a separate assessment.
For puppies who need a different level of support, explore our Behavior Modification & Aggression Board & Train program.
