Who is this program for?
Basic Obedience Board & Train is designed for puppies and adult rescue dogs with little or no training foundation. It offers an accelerated approach for owners who want to build everyday skills through concentrated practice, instead of spreading the work across private sessions.
- Puppies beginning their basic obedience and household routines.
- Adult rescue dogs who need a foundation in communication, focus and everyday manners.
- Owners who want a focused training program and are ready to keep practicing with their dog at home.
What does the program cover?
Training follows a step-by-step plan, starting with engagement and a willingness to learn. We then build the practical skills your dog needs for everyday life.
Engagement & focus
Step-by-step exercises develop attention, connection and an enjoyable attitude toward learning and working with people.
Basic obedience commands
Sit, down, stay and recall build a foundation for clear communication and everyday routines.
Loose leash walking & heel
Practice walking without pulling and learning to move with a handler in a heel position.
Crate & potty training
Structured routines help establish comfortable crate habits and appropriate potty habits.
Everyday manners & play
Work on jumping, puppy nipping and learning appropriate ways to play and interact with people.
Social skills around dogs
Guided practice helps your dog learn appropriate interactions and social behavior around other dogs.
What does a training day look like?
Every dog is different. Energy level, personality and training goals shape the day. Our goal is a dog who enjoys the work and looks forward to learning.
Focused training sessions
Your dog receives at least four short training sessions each day, typically four to five sessions of around 15 minutes. Timing and pace are personalized to the dog.
Why short sessions?
Short sessions help keep training enjoyable and attention fresh. We watch for fatigue or frustration and adjust the session so your dog is comfortable, attentive and ready to learn.
Learning between sessions
Supervised play and managed daily routines provide opportunities to reinforce the skills taught during lessons. Good habits are practiced and maintained throughout your dog’s stay.
Where does training take place?
The program takes place at Heaven Sent K-9’s private five-acre ranch in Perris, Riverside County, in the Inland Empire. Your dog stays at the ranch during the program.
We welcome families from throughout Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire. Clients bring their dogs to our Perris ranch for their stay. Pickup and drop-off transportation may be arranged upon request, subject to availability.
Your role after board & train
Board & train gives your dog a foundation; it does not replace training and working with your dog at home.
Continued practice, consistent expectations and reinforcement help your dog use these skills with you in everyday life. Your involvement is an essential part of maintaining the progress made during the stay.
Looking for behavior modification or aggression training?
Basic Obedience is designed for dogs without significant behavioral issues. Aggression and cases requiring behavior modification are not covered by this program. Everyday puppy manners, such as jumping and nipping, are part of basic training.
For dogs who need a different level of support, explore our Behavior Modification & Aggression Board & Train program.
