More freedom. A stronger connection.
Ready to take your dog’s obedience beyond the leash? Build responsive recall, distance commands and focus around distractions with a personalized advanced training stay at our private ranch in Perris.
For dogs with a basic obedience foundation. Serving Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire.
Dogs trained at another facility need a consultation before enrollment. Graduates of our Basic Obedience Board & Train can move directly into the advanced program. See your next step.

Who is this program for?
Advanced Off-Leash Board & Train is designed for dogs who already understand basic obedience and are ready to work at greater distances, around more distractions and with less reliance on a leash for guidance.
- Dogs who have completed basic obedience with Heaven Sent K-9 or another training provider.
- Owners who want more responsive recall, stronger impulse control and a dog who stays connected even when there is room to explore.
- Families who enjoy hiking, horseback riding or outdoor activities and want to develop the skills that support safer adventures where dogs are permitted.
- Owners who want practical preparation for everyday situations, including being able to call their dog back if an unexpected situation arises.
Does my dog need a consultation?
Trained with us? If your dog has completed our Basic Obedience Board & Train, they can move directly into Advanced Off-Leash Board & Train without an additional entry consultation.
Trained somewhere else? A consultation is required before we proceed. We assess your dog’s current obedience, engagement and responses to distractions to confirm that their foundation meets the standard needed for advanced work. If more foundational practice is needed, we discuss that next step with you.
Program length: A minimum stay of two weeks. Your dog’s starting skills and progress guide the training plan.
What does the program cover?
We build on the commands your dog already knows, adding distance, distraction and more demanding situations at a pace suited to their progress. The aim is dependable communication both on and off leash.
Recall from a distance
Practice returning promptly when called from increasing distances. We build repetitions in different situations so your dog learns that coming back to you matters even when something else is interesting.
Heel from a distance
Teach your dog to respond to the heel cue from farther away, return to your side and move with you. The goal is a clear response to your cue with less dependence on leash guidance.
Down from a distance
Practice responding to a down cue while away from the handler, then remaining in position until released. Distance and distractions increase gradually as understanding develops.
Recall during play
Practice calling your dog away from appropriate, supervised play with other dogs. We work on disengaging, returning to the handler and waiting for the next cue, with play partners chosen for suitability.
Focus around dogs & distractions
Build the ability to notice other dogs, movement and activity without automatically leaving the handler, rushing over or losing focus. Your dog practices listening even when the surroundings are exciting.
Impulse control
Strengthen the ability to pause, wait for permission and respond thoughtfully. We practice staying engaged instead of immediately chasing, approaching or joining whatever catches your dog’s attention.
Handler connection
Reinforce checking in, paying attention and enjoying working with you. We want your dog to choose connection with their handler even when the leash is no longer providing constant guidance.
Practice across real-life scenarios
Rehearse recall and obedience in varied, managed situations, with changes in distance, activity and distractions. Each step builds toward quicker, more consistent responses and appropriate freedom.
Do you use a long line or e-collar?
A long line or an e-collar may be incorporated into the training plan. A long line can provide a backup while distance skills are developing. Equipment is selected for the individual dog and discussed with you; an e-collar is not mandatory for teaching advanced off-leash skills.
We build understanding and responsiveness through practice, clear communication and reinforcement. The amount of freedom your dog is given depends on their readiness and the training environment.
What does a training day look like?
Every dog is different. Energy level, attention, existing skills and training goals shape the day. We want a dog who enjoys the work and looks forward to learning.
Focused training sessions
Your dog works with us in multiple short training sessions each day. Lessons combine distance commands, recall, impulse control and distraction work, with timing and pace personalized to the dog.
Why short sessions?
Short sessions help keep attention fresh and training enjoyable. We watch for fatigue or frustration and adjust the work so your dog can remain comfortable, engaged and ready to learn.
Learning between sessions
Supervised activities and managed daily routines create opportunities to practice check-ins, recalls and thoughtful responses. Rest between activities gives your dog time to recover.
Where does training take place?
Your dog stays at Heaven Sent K-9’s private five-acre ranch in Perris, Riverside County, in the Inland Empire. The ranch provides space for structured distance work and carefully managed distractions.
We welcome families from Orange County, Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire. Pickup and drop-off transportation may be arranged upon request, subject to availability.
Your role after board & train
One-hour private session at pickup
Your program includes a one-hour private session when you pick up your dog. We review the skills practiced during the stay, demonstrate the cues and handling, and show you how to continue the work at home.
Continued practice is essential. Use consistent cues, reinforce your dog’s responses and build up distractions gradually. We help you understand when to use a leash or long line and when your dog is ready for more freedom in an appropriate setting.
Our goal is stronger obedience and connection whether your dog is on or off leash. Reliability develops with practice and varies with the dog and the situation; no training program can promise a perfect response in every circumstance.
What if my dog also struggles with aggression?
Let us know before booking. Significant aggression, reactivity or other behavioral concerns may need a different plan. Explore our Behavior Modification & Aggression Board & Train so we can help you choose the right program.
More freedom, with thoughtful boundaries
For owners who enjoy hiking or horseback riding, recall, impulse control and attention around movement can be valuable skills. Discuss these goals with us so the plan reflects your dog’s needs. Readiness around horses, wildlife or unfamiliar dogs must be assessed individually.
Use off-leash skills only in suitable areas where dogs are allowed off leash, and follow local leash laws, property rules and posted trail requirements. Training does not replace a legally required leash. For example, California State Parks requires dogs to be on a leash no longer than six feet in areas where dogs are permitted. Check your destination’s rules before heading out.
